Because it sucks.
When I first heard of that Jay Leno was going to be moved to a 10pm time slot I was underwhelmed. I hadn’t watched ‘The Tonight Show with Jay Leno’ for years. I really couldn’t stand Jay Leno because he always seemed like a pompous, arrogant host. After tuning into last nights 10pm show I pretty much confirmed my view of him. Who the heck thought that his show would work at 10pm?! No wonder local affiliates are struggling after his dreck.
Leno’s interviews aren’t very insightful and he seems like he’s burying his head up his guest’s ass. He even ripped off Top Gear’s ‘Star in a Reasonably Priced Car’ but thought he’d ‘spice it up’ by doing two things
- Use an electric car to promote being ‘green’. He’s not burning gas and he’s helping the environment
- He throws in obstacles, such as shooting streamers made of MYLAR at the car. Yes, he shoots mylar streamers at the car. That’s the same material that some balloons are made of that they say chokes turtles and kills birds.
Conan O’Brien’s show, on the other hand, reminded me of David Letterman’s show. It was always filled with some really quirky and weird spots. He’s the one who introduced me to Triumph the Insult Dog! He was also hilarious in his 3-way war with Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert. And maybe that’s the crux of it: Leno appeals to old people who think he’s funny. Or maybe he appeals to dumbed down middle-America who don’t get the wit of O’Brien.

Leno has the balls to invite Jimmy Kimmel on his show, January 14, 2009
Leno is still a douchebag. Good for Kimmel for skewering him. I think Leno thought that being self-deprecating would be funny but you could see that he becomes uncomfortable.
Leno: “What’s the best prank you’ve ever pulled?”
Kimmel: “I told a guy that ‘five years from now, I’m going to give you my show.’ And then when the five years came, I gave it to him. And then I took it back almost instantly. I think he works at Fox or something now.”
I love the glee that Kimmel gets from making Leno squirm. It was deliciously brutal to watch.
And who can forget Conan’s hosting of the Emmy’s?

Chris Hanson sounds like he was trying to do a Sean Connery impersonation.
Sienna Miller, the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car on Top Gear. Because I love Top Gear and Sienna Miller is HOT.
