Earlier, I had written that I had a ‘fan club’ of sorts. You know, people in a bus and in a restaurant/cafe who watch me as I go to work. It is a little weird when you think about it but also a little bit of a boost to my itty-bitty ego. Naturally, it sort of feels nice walking to work.

Until something happens to bring you back down to reality.

I felt really good walking to the Metro the other day. Hey, there’s the bus! And, hey!, there’s the restaurant! Look at me stroll by now!

So, I turned the corner to walk into the station, whipped out my small card case holding my  SmartCard to pay my fare and I swiped it over the sensor.  As I was bringing the card back to my card case it slipped out and fell to the ground behind me. Whoops! As I turned around to pick it up, the turnstiles to the Metro gate closed.

On my head.

Kathunk.

For a half second I was trapped with these things around my head as I was bending over to collect my card off the ground. I felt soooooooo special right then. THAT is when I finally felt the eyes of a crowd of people on me.
