I’m not going to say I’m a music snob. On the contrary. I’ll listen to almost anything. However, I made the honest mistake of listening to the Billboard Top 100.
Let me be perfectly honest – I download music. Yes, yes. However, the music that is on a regular RSS download feed through Azureus is the UK Top 40. Why? I like it. The music is a lovely mish-mash of old, new, techno, blues, europop and crap. I get to listen to artists like The Pigeon Detectives, The Zutons, Kate Nash, Hard-Fi, Natasha Bedingfield and so many others.
However, here was a sampling of the Billboard Top 50 that I made the mistake of downloading and listening to:

This. Is. Ass.
If this is the state of music in the United States then its no wonder people like Johnny Depp fled. He just wanted better music. Maybe I’m just and old fart and I don’t get the rap thing. Hell, I still enjoy listening to old school rap like Kwame, Eric B. & Rakim and others. But this stuff? Blah.
I’m going to ostrich this one out and bury my head in the ground until it gets better. Please don’t insert anything into my exposed buttocks.
I miss you 🙁
I think it is interesting that there’s all this talk about the decline of rap music and yet, just by looking at this list, most of the billboard top 50 is rap music.
Some of it is ok. It just becomes old listening to the misogynistic lyrics all the time.
I just discovered Betty Davis. She was married to Miles Davis for a while. “He Was a Big Freak” was supposedly about Jimi Hendrix. Fun funk music.

This is why Inky makes her own music or orders it from Europe.
I really enjoyed those, Kelly!
I agree. Contemporary American music has turned to crap.
With the exception of the country tunes listed, I have no idea what any of the rest might even sound like. Though with a name like Cletus is anyone surprised? I also realized the other day I seem to basically listen to the same music Now? Not so much…
Wow, horribly abortive comment. What I meant is, I listen to the same crap I have always listened to. And I am fine with that.
