I like this ‘advert’ of sorts for Google Latitude.. It takes a nice simple video of Google employees and then gives the user a nice little pay off at the end. In my case, it was just a reminder of bodily functions: Google reminds us: Puzzy Farts.

I went through and I was going to embed the video but I got lazy. It would require me to grab the javascript files, their flash player and embed code and make sure that it all works. This is done by passing my ‘scrambled words’ through the javascript so that it could be translated into the final flash movie and written into the text of the final frames. Again: I got lazy. My motivation at 4 in the morning is iffy at best. This is especially when my computers are already hunkered down doing other video work.

Honestly, I'd fart for anyone if they wanted me to.

Honestly, I’d fart for anyone if they wanted me to.

The same type of concept/tech is used on sites like the fake Presidential Election videos for 2008. You know, where Puzzy Farts for President, 2008. If I was to just yank the flash video without the javascript to translate the encoded text all of the instances of ‘Puzzy Farts’ would read ‘Undefined Undefined’.

My only gripe with the Google Latitude vid is pretty simple: the last images we see are of someone’s monitor with the text overlayed (overlain? on top of? super-imposed? composited??) on the map of San Francisco. The unfortunate thing is that the perspective is off so that the text is nice and flat while the monitor has just a wee bit of an angle to it.

Good times 🙂

EDIT: Here is the video without the ‘scrambled text’ being passed to the flash file.
