Shut up. Shut up shut up shut up. I know there are going to be a good number of you who will look at me like I’m a complete and utter boob and that I probably got what was coming to me. For that, I give you the pre-emptive “Shut up” and smack of my ass at you.
Right now I’m FURIOUS.
Furious and distraught. Yesterday I was working, ever so dilligently, on some graphics and copy for some clients. I had just started the projects in the evening so everything was nice and fresh. I was productive and getting things done like nobody’s business. Somewhere around 10:30 I decided that I had enough and that the creative juices in my head were too tired to continue. With that, I left my computer and thought to myself “Self, we’ll come back down and work all nice and refreshed after we sleep for a few hours!”. And off I went.
I woke up at 3am. The dogs, wary of waking up at such an early hour, elected not to come downstairs with me. Instead they both yawned in my direction, stretched oh so mightily and then snuggled up next to Angela. My little helpers indeed. I made my way downstairs in the darkness, turned the corner through the dining room and past the kitchen and made my way to the office. I got my butt in my chair, rubbed my eyes and was excited to get moving on my projects. The blue neon glow from my PC’s case helped me see my desk. I quickly moved the mouse to wake up the computer and the screen faded into view from the dark black sleep state to the Windows login screen.
* rubbed my eyes *
The Windows login screen. THE WINDOWS M*&@!($%@#ING LOGIN SCREEN!! AAAAAGH!
Over the course of the night Windows decided to update itself automatically. In doing so it closed all of my applications so that it could reboot itself. Did it save anything? Oh, hell no. Everything that I was working on, all the fresh edits and images, were gone. Hence, my pre-emptive “Shut up” earlier. I know that I should have saved everything while I was working but I didn’t. Let’s take an inventory of what I lost:
- 3 Illustrator images
- 16 pages of edits to HTML based pages
- 4 Photoshop pieces
- several websites that i was reading that I didn’t bookmark
- 2 Swift3D models
Grrrrrrrrrr. Stupid update. I could have sworn that I turned off the Automatic Update in the past, too, because this has happened before. Well, I’d like to continue chatting but, as you can tell, I have some work to get to.
You poor, poor, stupid man.
Duuuude?!?
What were you thinkin’?
Thats all I got.
That sux donkey parts.
Yeah, I know. Even worse? You think that I would have learned my lesson from all of this but it did it to me again this morning.
..
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!
Okay…
Fool me once…
You know where I’m going with this!
If you use Firefox get the Tab Mix Plus extension. You can bring back anything you were browsing after the browser crashes or if you close it. It’s pretty handy. For the other stuff you’re on your own, sorry it happened.
