The new Volkswagen website, thefuntheory.com, is being built around the premise that
[It] is dedicated to the thought that something as simple as fun is the easiest way to change people’s behaviour for the better. Be it for yourself, for the environment, or something entirely different, the only thing that matters is that it’s change for the better.
I am a firm believer in this. Look at the places where I’ve worked. Work can generally be a boring, monotonous affair that consumes more than 40 hours of your week. Rather than making it something you dread I enjoyed making my work environments someplace that people enjoyed. If it was something you looked forward to doing, how could you hate it? If you didn’t hate it then you wouldn’t want to kill it with fire, right?
I’m looking forward to seeing what happens with this site. I don’t care if I’m buying into the Volkswagen marketing that they’re pushing down my throat. Look at the stuff I buy and eat: I’m an advertiser’s dream. The thought of making people smile or be happy or show genuine interest in something is priceless.
Here’s my only caveate, though. Watch the following vid.

I would probably kill myself with that set of stairs. It would probably be a great place to bring your kids, though. However, if you brought your kids after I was on them then make sure you shield your eyes and cover their ears. The mangled mess at the bottom moaning in agony after he tried to play the theme song to “The Simpsons” would be me.
I love how you find these cute, uplifting pieces and events and still make it something we can relate to by being self-deprecating.
You’ve been the best boss I’ve ever had! I’ve never met anyone who mad a large place seem like a small, nimble start-up and treat me both with respect as well as be able to talk to me like a friend. I’ve never found anyone willing to sacrifice so much for his employees an make everyone feel like work was a win-win situation.
I…I…I love you, man.
