I started my new job yesterday and the difference between the 2 hour commute and the 5 minute commute is absolutely amazing. I had time to do some chores, read the paper, let the dogs run around like nut jobs and a few other things. Then I kissed the dogs goodbye, scratched my ass and yawned, hopped in the car and 5 minutes later I’m walking through the door and into my office.

The place that I’m working at now is pretty darn neat. I’ve got my PC and my Mac, gigantic windows to look out of, coffee stations every few hundred yards apart, the priviledge to use instant messengers and anything else/protocol aside from p2p clients, and a few other niceties. Oh, and bunnies. Lots and lots of bunnies working and hiding throughout the facilities. Let’s hope I don’t screw it up. 🙂

On the minus side, I had to do run the new employee gauntlet – my workstation was still configured for someone else as was my telephone. When I finally got to the workstation configured for me from helpdesk, they didn’t give me a password. And I shut dowm my machine. And now I’m locked out of it. Poop. Same thing with the phone – it was someone else’s and I have no idea how to remove the voicemail messages. I called the telecom guys who should have everything set up for me today.

For lunch I left at 12:21 and drove past the house just to see how long it would take – which took all of 5 minutes. So I decided to wander around. I went to the bookstore, drove by Chic-fil-A (and got driven off by the long line at the drive through), drove around the Best Buy area and wound up in a parking lot eating fast food. Stupid Chipotle wasn’t finished being built.

YAY! I GET TO SEE MY PUPPIES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY! I think I’ll see if they’ll let me bring them to work. 🙂
