Watching television can sometimes be a hit or miss situation. Sometimes you hit some real gems; sometimes you find yourself eyes deep in cow shit. Is there a middle ground? Maybe just a little. My middle ground is downloading anime or watching a movie on DVD. God, I hate television these days. I defy someone to suggest a good television show for me to watch. So far, here are three examples of shows that hit my scale of “blech”.

Holly Morris of Fox 5 News. I wake up in the mornings all nice and groggy with Noah’s ark on my bed and my wife next to me. We usually have the same routine – I wake up, fumble around the bed with the pooches and the cat as we jockey for position and we wait for Angela to turn off the alarm clock. After the third time, I ask her to turn on the television so that we could watch the weather. I normally used to watch the NBC affiliate in the mornings. Ever since getting married, we’ve watched Fox News on channel 5. It never fails that after we get showers and what not out of the way that Holly Morris is on. I hate her. I. HATE. HER. I don’t mind human-interest stories but most of her tripe is absolutely useless and annoying. Her stories have no substance, aren’t amusing or interesting. And she’s trying to be young and trendy when she’s evidently reached past the point of being a blond bunny. The other day she was decked out as a chav with her fake Burberry clothing on. I wanted to put my foot through the television.

the Boondocks I’m not sure if I find this show on Adult Swim funny or not. I mean, seriously. It has some really funny moments at times but otherwise it can get really depressing when you realize the social commentary that is being made. Blacks, African Americans, Colored, Niggers, Niggas, Negroes. All references are thrown in there. And yet, I also find it thought provoking. Maybe that is why it is starting to grow on me. Although a cartoon that takes a microscopic look at the plight of a black grandfather and his two nephews growing up together in a suburban town. The militant child, the easily impressionable youngest child and the curmudgeonly grandfather lend a very interesting perspective on society in general.

Brainiac why is the only show that I really like to watch from England? It has EVERYTHING. They blow up bathtubs with chemicals, tickle people until they almost pee, and make omelettes with construction tools. And everything is based on fact or scientific discovery. If you get the chance then I strongly suggest you catch it on G4. I’ll probably talk about this in a future post. Hopefully the novelty won’t wear off like Most Extreme Challenge (Takeshi’s Castle) did.

And there you have it. So far I can only claim that the only television show that I can sit through isn’t even from our country. Has the golden age of television waned? Face it, even the news shows and the talk shows are starting to seem lame. Wasn’t it Bruce Springsteen who sang 500 channels and nothing to watch?

I’m going to go download some more anime. I’ll talk to you later.
